clara! and pearson sound make their debut collaboration with ‘mi cuerpo’ (my body), recorded remotely in brussels and london in early 2020. driven by pearson’s sharp snares, spiky fm synths and a rattling sub bassline, clara’s lyrics describe being lost in music yet in control of your own body movements, dancing alone without the gaze of others. at its midpoint the track builds to a frenzy, reaching a crescendo with the repeated chant of ‘poco pudor y mucho sudor’ (don’t be embarrassed, get sweaty), and finally closing out with snippets of whispered vocals and gasps. accompanying the main vocal mix is an extended instrumental version for the club, as well as a 3d video by amsterdam-based juliette lizotte and philip ullman. dj support from joy o, ben ufo + more

another much welcomed reissue of the late 70s funk laden, disco two tracker from splendor. the a side take me to your disco is emblematic of disco records from that golden era where big bands and big budgets were rife. yet theres an interplanetary twist to this one, with the mysterious, eerie, spacecraft sounding intro paving the way for a tale of extraterrestrials wanting to get down at one of planet earths discos. you can tell this came from an era were disco really was taking over flip it over and you ve got the mighty special lady. with philip bailey, of earth, wind and fire fame, on production his style comes through strong in the vocal arrangement with the level of feeling and power he squeezes out of each voice. a chance to add these two anthems to the collection!

like many electronic artists, ryan lee west aka rival consoles spent his early years experimenting with idm, glitch and dance, but one consistent element in his musical journey has been his desire to create a more organic, humanised sound. through these experimentations he has found a process of producing electronic music that feels close to this urge. west engages his hands directly with instruments and is very selective about what he then records into the computer. he reduces musical parts even further, leaving enough space around the sound for it to breath.
odyssey is a reflection of west’s quest to create atmosphere and space from minimal arrangements. ‘i don’t like music to sound overly laboured, so i restrict how much is going on. i’m kind of obsessed with the idea of reduction.’ this 5-track ep was mastered by naweed.

dark entries is proud to release ‘commerce’, the third ep from san francisco-based trio inhalt, german for “content”. the group was founded in 2009, and for the purposes of this recording are matia simovich, philip winiger and steven campodonico. inhalt’s core operative strategy is of sonic fidelity and integrity rather than nostalgia. their first release was a split 12- on world unknown in 2011 followed by two eps on dark entries, a remix ep on emotional especial and a part time punks session on cleopatra. ‘commerce’ is a close examination of the self destructive tendency of the ego in relation to the allure of negativity and mass tragedy. the ep details the psychopathy of relentless thirst mandated by neo-liberalism and traverses through the adoption of social and economic technologies that strengthen domination vis a vis self enslavement to disempowerment. employing the best of both modern and vintage techniques, the four songs on the ep utilize dense production, big snares, and powerful german vocals from philip. inhalt are informed by the brooding soundtracks of john carpenter as much as the vastness and sheen of trevor horn, and set out to explore the borders between the vocal-driven pop song and the expansive dancefloor 12&#8243,,,, arrangement. the record was produced over four years at the bands own black sun loft recording studio and different fur studios. paul lavigne mastered the ep in london, england at kontrast mastering and george horn handled the vinyl eq curve at fantasy studios, berkeley. each ep is housed in a specially designed jacket by leo merz and includes a lyric sheet with english translations.

with an enviable private collection of synthesisers amassed during his travels to the us in the early 1970’s and shipped home to tel aviv (where he was an established kinetic artist, as well as a professor of both philosophy and art) ami’s main focus was the desire to combine his love of electronic music acts such as tangerine dream, philip glass and new synthesiser technology, with his interest in the relatively new technique of biofeedback - a process in which technology was used to relay information about the body’s functions in order to enable a change of physiological activity.
